she waits
It was a glorious weekend with perfect weather and much time spent outdoors. Mama bluebird spent most of her time watching over the nest box, not amused that I was out there invading her space, but never straying too far away. There are three eggs in the nest, and I am hoping that this year, we will have babies.
Between the sparrows and the swallows and the other larger birds (not to mention a certain unmentionable kitten) it is always a fight for survival. And so, she waits. And I wait with her, holding my breath and watching over them all.
Mother bird, mother gardener, mother nature, all working hand in hand to hatch three tiny lives. Of course, in truth, Papa bluebird is lending a hand as well, ever vigilant and protective.
The world outside my window is vibrant and verdant and filled with gifts. Windows are open, and all day the music plays… birdsong and peeping frogs and rustling breezes filled with scent.
And I bask in the glow of this sun, this promise of life.
The possibility.
